Message from the President
On behalf of our more than 22,000 employees, I am proud to share with you how we made a significant difference in the lives of so many families and individuals last year. Our social responsibility efforts demonstrate just one more way our Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand is synonymous with a company that cares.
In 2015, we built on a nearly 80-year legacy of caring with increased community support and more volunteerism than ever before. Operating in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas as Blue Cross and Blue Shield, our brand is recognized not only for providing access to quality health care coverage and caring service but also compassion for those in need.
Through our Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® partnership with hundreds of organizations, we enhanced the lives of more than 3.2 million children. Our nearly two dozen Care Vans® provided almost 200,000 immunizations and other health services primarily to medically underserved kids. And our employees volunteered more than 107,000 hours to help local communities – nearly a fivefold increase since 2010.
In addition to improving the health of our communities, you will see that our commitment to environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and ethics and compliance is as strong as ever.
